Flowers From an Alberta Summer

(All photographs copyright 2010, all rights reserved.)

I'm done with winter. It's March and I'm ready to see some color again. To that end, I recently bought a nifty scanner so that I could have photos from my non-digital days on my computer. These are just a few. You'll be seeing more (whether you like it or not!) over the next few months. Consider this post a reminder that it really WILL be spring soon.

  1. Wow, Messy! Beautiful stuff! Would you mind sharing the scanner model you're using?! Very nicely done! Both in the original photo-taking and in the excellent scan quality! Beautiful photos. :-)

  2. It's an Epson Perfection V30 scanner. Nothing special and NOT expensive. You can get one here: http//www.jr.com/epson/pe/EPS_V30 .

  3. Blast. Couldn't post a link to save myself.

As for the photos, thanks! I'm still furious that camera was stolen in the last move. I had put it in my sock drawer (which was shrink-wrapped shut) and it was gone when we moved in.

    Sigh.

  4. Oddly enough, due to the unseasonably warm winter we've had out here in WA, the cherry blossom trees went crazy several weeks early out here. They're getting into full swing now, and are absolutely beautiful.

We also are starting to get Periwinkles blooming around the building I work in, and my mother's garden is getting ready for the tulip blitz soon to come. Hooray for Spring!

  5. It's about time, too! I don't know what kind of a winter you guys had, but here it was gloomy. We didn't get a heck of a lot of snow, but it was cold and cloudy a lot of the time. Even the cats were cranky sometimes.

The snow has melted just enough here that I can see where some of the ferns I planted last year really ARE evergreen under the snow. Weird.

  6. Messy, those flowers are a beautiful sight thanks to the partnership between your photographic art and mother nature!

Like Corey, I too live in Washington state and we basically didn't have a winter. Everything is popping up way ahead of schedule so I hope we won't suddenly have the snow we didn't have when we were supposed to....

  7. I've got my fingers crossed that the weather will be civilized in Oregon next month when we go to sample the delights of Voodoo Doughnuts in Portland and the wine producers afterwards....

Just to drive everyone berserk, I'm sitting outdoors in a cafe in Horseshoe Bay waiting for a ferry to take me to Vancouver Island. The sun is shining, the birds are chirping and the ocean is like glass. I'm completely mellow for the first time since.... September.

  8. Ahhh - Voodoo Doughnuts *sigh* Remember one night - walked there after watching the fire-dancers at Dante's. Must have been about 1AM, and a fresh batch was coming out. Decadant, delicious, and in the most....let us say, unusual shapes. Northern Washington is beautiful, but I sorely miss my Oregon.
